She utilizes cryo-electron microscopy to capture three-dimensional images of membrane proteins in the laboratory of Saskia Neher, PhD, in the UNC Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. Recently, Dr. Pittman shared her experience through a personal interview that encourages all scientists to create opportunities for difficult conversations about race, in addition to other actionable goals. The freely accessible article, published in Nature on June 22, also features insights from five other Black scientists in the United States, Sweden, and Great Britain.
