A new meta-analysis led by Micheal Sandbank, PhD, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Sciences at the UNC School of Medicine, found that the field of autism needs more high-quality randomized studies of early interventions to help clinicians understand how to better support children diagnosed with the condition.

Springer recently released "Chronic Illness Care, Principles and Practice," edited by UNC Family Medicine's Timothy P. Daaleman, DO, MPH, and Margaret R. Helton, MD. Faculty members in the Department of Family Medicine, faculty across the UNC-Chapel Hill campus, and other national and international experts wrote the textbook.

Doctoral student Orla Putnam's research will examine prosody, which is the rhythm, tone and pattern used during spoken language in males and females with and without autism, and will compare prosody to assessments of social function and interest. Results will inform caregivers, educators and clinicians when considering a possible autism diagnosis for girls.

TraCS Team Science is seeking to assist UNC researchers with the formation and development of multidisciplinary research teams focused on tackling challenging problems in clinical or translational medicine through the new ACTeR program. Phase 2 provides up to $50,000 and up to 0.5 FTE Project Manager support for up to 12 months to support the generation of preliminary data and grant application preparation. The Eshelman Institute for Innovation recently opened its pre-proposal application for the 2022 annual grant cycle. The Institute seeks to fund translational research related to therapeutics focused on oncology, infectious disease, and neuroscience, including rare diseases, and all digital health technologies. The Institute also welcomes ideas for devices and diagnostics, and other therapeutic areas and services.
