Several months ago, we shared with you that UNC Health Care is in the process of creating a system Human Resources department for our owned facilities (Caldwell, Chatham, High Point Regional, UNC REX Healthcare, UNC Medical Center and UNC Physicians Network). The first step in this process was naming Bill Rotella as system vice president of Human Resources for UNC Health Care. The next step is naming the system executive directors who will work with Bill to chart the future for the system’s Human Resources department.

Wayne Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors voted Dec. 15, 2015, to authorize its executive committee to sign a Management Services Agreement with UNC Health Care. Although no formal agreement has been signed, both parties expect to have a formalized plan in place in the near future.

On Saturday, December 19 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. email clients will temporarily and intermittently lose access to UNC Exchange accounts. ITS is implementing Exchange 2013 servers to prepare for future upgrades and Office 365 migrations. Following this change, outlook.unc.edu will point to the new Exchange 2013 servers. The only change users should notice is a new Outlook Web Application (OWA) login page. After entering their username and password, users will be redirected to the familiar 2010 OWA interface.

On Wednesday, Dec. 2, the 16-bed Bone Marrow Transplant Unit patients and staff moved from their location on the fourth floor of the Cancer Hospital to their new 24-bed location on the first floor of the Neurosciences Hospital. Once the 16-bed space on the fourth floor of the Cancer Hospital is empty, renovations will begin to expand 4 Oncology from a 34-bed unit to a 53-bed unit, with plans to open in Spring 2016.

UNC Hospitals' Cardiology Acute & Intermediate Coronary Care Unit, 3 Anderson/ICCU, has been awarded Gold-level Beacon Award designation by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses. 3 Anderson/ICCU joins the ranks of the CTICU, CICU, MPCU, 5BT and SICU at UNC Hospitals as recipients of this prestigious award, and is the first mixed acuity unit in the southeast to achieve this distinction.
