10-Digit local calling and the new 984 area code
To accommodate the need for additional telephone numbers in the twelve-county geographical area covered by the 919 area code, the North Carolina Utilities Commission is introducing the new 984 Area Code. The new dialing plan will be fully implemented on Saturday, March 31.

Decedent Care Service
On March 19, UNC Hospitals will begin a Decedent Care Service. The goal of this service is to provide a resource for the family, physician, and nurse shortly after a patient death to assure that all necessary paperwork is completed, to answer questions regarding autopsy requests and to assist in the transport of the deceased to the Morgue.

Payroll advices will now be available on Friday mornings
The implementation of the new HR/Payroll system has given the Payroll Office improved flexibility in our payroll processing schedule. To make the most of our new scheduling abilities, Payroll will now process payroll on Thursday mornings instead of Wednesday evenings. As a result, electronic pay stubs will be available on Friday mornings instead of Thursday afternoons. This change WILL NOT affect the date of your deposits/checks. Pay day will still be on Wednesday.

Controlled Substance Identification Requirements
On March 1, a new law (NC S.L. 2011-349) passed by the North Carolina General Assembly will go into effect. The new law requires the presentation of a valid photo ID prior to dispensing of any new and refill Schedule II or certain Schedule III prescriptions.
