The UNC Peripheral Nerve Center is now open. The center is an integrated practice unit that seeks to improve the lives of patients dealing with peripheral nerve disorders. The center's work will focus on conditions that affect nerves transmitting signals from the brain and spinal cord to the body.

In January 2022, Norfleet-Raney Distinguished Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery Joseph M. Hart, PhD, was named Vice Chair for Research for UNC Orthopaedics. Preceding his arrival at UNC, Hart held multiple appointments over a 20+-year career at University of Virginia in UVA’s Departments of Kinesiology and Orthopaedic Surgery as a professor, clinical researcher and department leader.

James Sanders, MD, has been named Chair of the Department of Orthopaedics, effective April, 2019. Ed Campion, MD, who has served as Chair since 2013, announced in March that he would retire after 33 years at the UNC School of Medicine.
