A $1.97 million grant from the SECU Foundation will allow the UNC School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry to lead a pilot program that will address the behavioral health crisis in children and adolescents by expanding access to care through telemedicine services in schools, especially in rural areas.

University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill research set the stage to seek emergency authorization of the first oral antiviral drug to treat COVID-19, a pill developed by the pharmaceutical companies Merck and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics. William Fischer, MD, at the UNC School of Medicine led pivotal clinical trials on the drug molnupiravir.

UNC School of Medicine, the World Health Organization, and the Ethiopian Public Health Institute conducted a joint study to find that malaria parasites are spreading undetected across the Horn of Africa, posing a major health threat to the region. Lead UNC lead investigator Jonathan Parr, MD, MPH, is senior author of this Nature Microbiology paper.
