VIDEO: UNC Hospitals Hillsborough Campus groundbreaking

More than 200 people attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the new physicians' office building and hospital in Hillsborough, N.C. on April 20. The ceremony featured remarks from several distinguished speakers and a scholarship presentation to Patsy Williams, a student at Cedar Ridge High School in Hillsborough. The event concluded with the ceremonial breaking of the ground on UNC Hospitals' new campus.

The physicians' office building will be built during the first phase of construction. The 60,000 square foot building, which will include a number of physicians' practices, is set to open in 2012. The Hospital, expected to be complete by 2015, will include 50 acute care beds, an 18-bed intensive care unit, six operating rooms, two procedure rooms, an emergency department, and outpatient medical and surgical specialty services, including urgent care, imaging, and oncology.

Speakers at the groundbreaking ceremony included Dr. William L. Roper, UNC Health Care System CEO; Hillsborough Mayor Tom Stevens; N.C State Representative Bill Faison; and Congressman David Price.
