Information about the TRICARE Supplement Plan, on-site visits from Employee Benefits, the Maternity Workshop, the Benefits and Life Planning Workshop, and Mediation Training.

TRICARE Supplement Plan
UNC Health Care is offering an opportunity for eligible retired military personnel to elect supplemental medical coverage under a TRICARE Supplement Plan. The benefit plan is offered through the NCFlex program. Enrollment for the Plan is May 1 – 31, 2015, for coverage effective June 1, 2015. Click here to read more.

Employee Benefits at Hospital
Employee Benefits office will have a representative at the hospital on Wednesday, April 29, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Medical School Wing C (Motel) Room 102 to assist employees with benefits-related questions and forms. Employees are invited to drop in or schedule an appointment.

Maternity Workshop
A Maternity Workshop is scheduled for Friday, May 1, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the Women’s Conference Room 4 and goes over information such as the Family Medical Leave Act, Shared Leave Policy for Maternity Leave, Benefits Insurance Changes/Options, and Child Care Resources. Please register to attend through LMS.

Benefits and Life Planning Workshop
Is retirement looming in your near future? This workshop scheduled for Friday, May 8from 8 a.m. to noon in Hedrick Classrooms 2 & 3, discusses the Teachers’ and State Employees’ Retirement System benefits and Social Security. Eligible participants should register through LMS and meet the following criteria:

  • age 60 with at least 5 years of service
  • age 50 with at least 20 years of service
  • any age with at least 30 years of service

Mediation Training 
The Employee Relations Department has scheduled its annual three-day Mediation Training for Monday, June 15, through Wednesday, June 17from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Aloft Hotel in Chapel Hill. The training is provided by Carolina Dispute Settlement Services of Raleigh.

Any employee who thinks he or she would be able to satisfactorily employ the Mediation skills learned are invited to come. Mediation Training participants will also be considered for future assignments as Mediators, Grievance Panel Members or Grievance Support Persons for UNC Health Care.
