Clean In, Clean Out Golden Hand Accolades for October

Overall compliance results for October were 95.3% for inpatients and 94.4% for outpatient/procedural areas. See which areas performed best this month!

Inpatient areas achieved 95.3% compliance overall. 87.5% of the inpatient units and 80% of the job classes met the goal of at least 90% compliance. Outpatient/procedural areas achieved 94.4% compliance overall with only 58% of the outpatient/procedural areas and 70% of the job classes meeting the goal of at least 90% compliance. ORs achieved 94.0% compliance overall.  View overall compliance results (Intranet link).

Targeted action planning is underway for areas and job classes that are having difficulty achieving 90% compliance or maintaining participation.

  • If your unit or job class is having difficulty achieving 90% compliance, this action planning tool (example paper tool inpatientoutpatient/proceduralelectronic submission) is available for you to use and hand hygiene advisory members will be available to assist you in developing strategies for improvement (please request assistance by emailing hand@unch.unc.edu).
  • Units and job classes with consistently high compliance (you know who you are!) – won’t you share your secrets and success stories with us (send to hand@unch.unc.edu)? You can be a local celebrity – featured in our very own News for Employees!

Feedback was provided for 53.9% of all inpatient observations, 50.5% of all outpatient/procedural observations and 49.8% of all OR observations – that’s our highest feedback percentage yet this year! Tips/scripting for providing feedback is here.

Our physician/APP colleagues are gaining momentum.  In October, 16 physicians/APPs submitted observations. Thanks to new providers who submitted this month:  Caitlin Burk, Christine Pao, Doug Henninsen, Eric Burgon, Kathy Bradford, Katie Rose, and Soshna Clerizer! And Kudos to Megan Andrews for her consistent monthly participation!  Can you each teach one (or more) of your colleagues how to submit observations using the survey tool on the Intranet home page?
