Daniels named System Vice President of Pharmacy Services

We are pleased to announce that Rowell Daniels has accepted the position of System Vice President of Pharmacy Services. In this role, he will work with a team of Pharmacy leaders across UNC Health Care to develop, oversee and maintain high-quality, cost-effective integrated pharmacy programs at multiple system hospitals and clinical areas.

Dr. Daniels is currently Director of Pharmacy at UNC Hospitals. During 17 years at UNC, he has served in numerous roles including Assistant and Associate Director of Pharmacy. He also serves as Executive Associate Dean for Pharmacy Clinical Practice with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Dr. Daniels received his Bachelors and Doctor of Pharmacy Degrees from the University of Georgia. He completed a two-year specialty residency and Masters degree program in Health System Pharmacy Administration at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. After residency training, Dr. Daniels worked as Associate Director of Pharmacy at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. Dr. Daniels’ areas of practice interest include transitions of care, Medication Policy, Pharmacy Clinical Practice Models, Performance Improvement, Health Care Finance, and promoting the growth of the pharmacy profession through pharmacy residency programs.

Through his leadership, the UNC Hospitals Department of Pharmacy has developed one of the largest single site pharmacy residency programs in the nation with 33 residents. In addition, his department has received the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists “Best Practices Award” for the past five  years (2011-2015).

Scott Savage, Associate Director of Pharmacy, will serve as interim Director of Pharmacy at UNC Hospitals while a search occurs for the Director position.
