Planned Epic@UNC downtime for Beaker Go-Live

As part of the Beaker Labs Go-Live, there is a planned Epic@UNC clinical downtime scheduled from 9 p.m. Friday, April 15, until 1 a.m. Saturday, April 16. During the planned downtime, Epic@UNC will remain available for registration areas only to allow registration of patients arriving through the Emergency Department and Labor & Delivery areas.

  • Please log-out prior to the downtime or you will receive a message requesting that you log off. Once the planned downtime begins, users will need to re-launch Epic@UNC to access the Epic@UNC Read-Only server, which will allow you to perform “view only” functions. 
  • During the planned downtime, all units should refer to the Downtime Resources posted on the Intranet. 
  • After Epic@UNC comes back up, there are often questions about who does what related to data recovery. In the Epic@UNC Downtime Guides, there are details on the roles and responsibilities related to recovery. Check the appropriate guide for your area and review the procedure to make sure you understand your role during this process.

When Epic@UNC comes back online, it will feature the following new Lab functions and systems:

  • Beaker Lab and Phlebotomy Rover specimen collection
  • New consolidated Telcor Point of Care system at UNC Medical Center and UNC REX Healthcare. 
    • If there are any issues with POC testing or badges not scanning, please contact your facility’s point of care (POC) team:

    • Point of care tests performed during the Epic@UNC downtime will become available when Epic@UNC becomes available at 1 a.m. with Beaker.
  • New Histotrac system at UNC Medical Center
