Suspicious Phone Calls Claiming to Be from the State Health Plan

The State Health Plan has been alerted that active employees and retirees are receiving calls from an "agent with BCBS" to verify their medical records. We have not received reports from any UNC Health Care employees directly impacted, but please be aware this is going on for some State Health Plan members, and do not share your personal information freely. Offer to call the plan back and provide any information necessary.

Colleagues around the state are reporting that active employees and retirees are receiving calls from an "agent with BCBS" to verify their medical records. They state they are in Greenville, NC.  The caller provides the individuals their mailing address, their date of birth, and the name of their primary care physician in an effort to establish trust and obtain additional information from the individual.

The State Health Plan has been alerted and is reporting they have taken several calls regarding this. BCBS is not making the calls. The number they are calling from is 305-818-5223 Hialeah, FL (but that could certainly change).

We have not received reports from any UNC Health Care employees directly impacted, but please be aware this is going on for some State Health Plan members, and do not share your personal information freely. Instead offer to call the plan back and provide any information necessary. That line is 888-234-2416 (benefits and claim information with BCBS). More information will be shared as it becomes available.
