Cyber Security Awareness Month: What can you do to be more secure
The best thing you can do to protect yourself from Internet threats seeking to steal your personal, financial and password information is to keep yourself up to date on the latest techniques. This three minutes video offers more education on how to spot modern phishing scams.
Hand Hygiene Contest: Oct. 15 - Nov. 15
Every employee who submits ‘Clean In, Clean Out’ observations with feedback provided from Oct. 15 - Nov. 15 will be entered into a prize drawing. If you provide feedback with a reminder, the observation will count four times! A friendly reminder before a patient interaction can prevent infections and create a compliant hand hygiene episode.
Benefit Open Enrollment: Nov. 2 - 19
This year's open enrollment period will be from Nov. 2 – 19. This is a shorter open enrollment period than in years past so please be ready to enroll when the period opens. The site for enrollment is https://go.unch.unc.edu/benefits; you can also enroll by phone at 855-859-0966 which will have extended hours during open enrollment.
MyTime Planned Downtime
The MyTime application will be down on Tuesday, Oct. 29 from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for maintenance. MyTime clocks will continue to be available and users will still be able to clock in and out.
Inpatient Providers: Enteral Tube Route of Administration Changes Oct. 23
Currently there are nine enteral routes of administration in Epic@UNC, which has created confusion. These are being consolidated down to two new routes on Wednesday, Oct. 23.

McLendon Labs Memo - Method Change for Factor V Leiden (F5) and Factor II (F2) Mutation Testing
Effective immediately, the methodology for detection of the Factor V Leiden mutation (F5, c.1601G>A, p.Arg534Gln) and Factor II (F2, Prothrombin, c.*97G>A, 20210G>A) associated with increased risk of thrombosis has changed from a mutation-specific melting curve analysis to a TaqMan genotyping assay. Employee Estimates - Coming Soon!
Would you like to know your out-of-pocket responsibility for an upcoming procedure? Starting on Nov. 1, an estimate for services in the UNC Health Care System will be available to all employees covered under the State Health Plan and Network Health Plan (UMR).
Impact of Nov. 3 Daylight Saving Time Change
The time will ‘fall back’ from 1:59 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Sunday morning, Nov. 3. Review the impact the time change will have on equipment (glucometers) and documentation (ADT, MAR, I/O, Graphs, Work List, Doc Flowsheets, ASAP - ED, Beaker Labs, and Stork Obstetrics).
Scheduled Network Downtime - Oct. 28
As part of the ISD networking teams continuing effort to upgrade network switches across the system, there will be a network downtime Monday, Oct. 28 from noon – 1:30 a.m. with 30 minute downtimes windows by area. During these downtime windows, all wired and wireless devices (i.e. PCs, Laptops, WOWs, Capsule, EKGs, Vocera, Desk Phones, Mobile Phones using Wi-Fi, etc.) will not be able to connect to the network.

Wellness workshops in the workplace make losing weight and/or forming healthy habits convenient. Workshops are Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. in the Women's Health and Education Center.

UPDATED: Telcor QML (Point of Care) Servers & Interfaces Downtime Wednesday, Nov. 13
There will be a Telcor QML (Point of Care) server & interface downtime from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2019. During this downtime, you will be able to utilize point of care instruments and devices to perform tests. However, the Point of Care devices and instruments will not be able to transmit results to Epic@UNC.
Coming to Epic@UNC in late 2019: CareSelect Imaging clinical decision support technology
UNC Health Care is pleased to announce the implementation of CareSelect Imaging clinical decision support (CDS) technology, which will go live in late 2019. CareSelect Imaging provides decision support when ordering advanced imaging exams (CT, MRI, and Nuclear Medicine/PET) directly within the provider's ordering workflow.
Cardinal Deck Closure – Thursday Evening, Oct. 24
OWASA must complete work to replace a utility vault cover on West Drive that will prevent access into the Cardinal Deck from Thursday, Oct. 24 at 10 p.m. until Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 a.m. Affected PD permit holders may park in the Dogwood Deck during this timeframe.
Halloween on Franklin Street
Every year, the university partners with the Town of Chapel Hill to create a Halloween celebration with the goal of having a fun and safe locally hosted and attended event. This event is often very large and can affect traffic and parking throughout Chapel Hill. If you are working on Oct. 31 please plan extra time when traveling to or from campus; more details about potential impacts may be found here.

Medicare MBI Format Warning – October 31
On Oct. 31, a new warning will be live in Epic@UNC alerting staff that they must update the MBI number for the patient’s Medicare coverage. It is critical that all coverage listed with the old format (SSN based) is updated as soon as possible.

Tim Kaiser realized that continuing to smoke cigarettes meant he was gambling with his health; and he wanted to make some changes while he was still healthy. So he reached to the Tobacco Free Tar Heels Program for help with quitting and is now tobacco free.
