Why should I get screened?
While smoking and drinking increase your risk, oral cancer is also rising in younger adults who don’t smoke. This is often caused by HPV, a common virus passed through skin-to-skin contact.
Early cancer can be hard to see or feel on your own. A quick and free screening from a trusted healthcare professional helps you find problems early when they are easiest to treat.
Signs to watch for
Check with a doctor if you notice any of these symptoms that linger for more than two weeks:
- Mouth sores that do not heal
- Red or white patches inside your mouth
- A lump in your neck or throat
- Pain when chewing or swallowing
- Voice changes or a constant sore throat
