Introduction to Assessing and Treating Trauma in Individuals with Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities

Jean Mankowski, Ph.D.

Dr. Jean Mankowski is a licensed psychologist and Clinical Assistant Professor who has practiced at the CIDD for 15 years.  She specializes in the assessment and treatment of individuals with behavioral and/or psychiatric difficulties in the context of neurodevelopmental disability.

Dr.  Mankowski will review how experiences of trauma manifest in individuals with I/DDs and discuss important modifications for assessing and treating subsequent mental health and trauma reactions.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop a better understanding of types of trauma and how trauma manifests in individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DDs)
  2. Discuss the nuances of trauma assessments in individuals with I/DDs
  3. Consider evidence-based practices to address trauma response and behavioral health needs in individuals with I/DDs from early childhood through adulthood
