Introduction to Career Development Awards for Biomedical Researchers

Enrollment is open for the next series of TraCS Career Development Award/K Writing Groups.
This series is for individuals planning external grant submissions within the next 6-9 months. This writing group is not a series of lectures, but rather a working group in which participants learn to give and receive feedback on sections of each member’s grant under the direction of several faculty leaders.
NOTE: This group is focused on external grant submissions and not on applications for an internal K award (e.g. TraCS KL2, Oncology K12). Participants can apply lessons learned to their internal K applications but these will not be specifically addressed in this group.
TraCS is now taking applications for the next award. Individuals who are preparing NIH or foundation career development awards are eligible to participate in this 5-month series to receive training in the components of a career development award application and feedback on the application components as they are being written.
Participants for this round should be targeting submissions in October 2021 or later. The group will also accept those who are resubmitting applications.
To participate, please send the following to Allison Rorie at allison_rorie@med.unc.edu:
A brief letter of introduction including your current position, school/dept affiliation, award mechanism (e.g. K01), and agency.
A list of confirmed mentors and/or mentor expertise you are still seeking.
A paragraph describing the proposed research project and the topics for training.
Please submit the materials no later than 5 p.m., May 18, 2021. The first session will be scheduled at a time convenient for most participants.
If you are at an earlier stage — for example, need an introduction to what career development awards are, and/or have not thought about potential mentors or training — you should plan to attend the Introduction to Career Development Awards sessions held in spring, summer and fall or request a consult with Susan Pusek at suspusek@med.unc.edu.
