MHI Seminar Series presents Karen L. Mohlke, Ph.D. Professor and Associate Chair for Research, Department of Genetics, UNC-Chapel Hill

March 8, 2023 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Title Of Talk: “Muscle Adaptations to Time-Restricted Feeding: Pumped Up on Ketones”

About the Principal Investigator:  Dr. Muoio’s laboratory investigates mechanisms of metabolic regulation, with emphasis on molecular events that link lifestyle factors, such as nutrition and physical activity, to muscle performance and cardiometabolic health. Her program features a translational approach that combines work in animal and cell-based models with human studies, using genetic engineering, molecular physiology and mass spectrometry-based metabolomics and proteomics as tools to understand the interplay between mitochondrial dysfunction, glucose intolerance and cardiometabolic disorders. Her laboratory has developed a sophisticated platform for deep and comprehensive assessment of mitochondrial bioenergetics and energy transduction. Her team aims to integrate this resource with metabolomics, proteomics, and metabolic flux analysis to gain insights into mechanisms by which mitochondria regulate whole body energy homeostasis, insulin action and metabolic resilience. Dr. Muoio’s laboratory has enjoyed longstanding support from the NIDDK and NHLBI.
