MHI Seminar Series presents Vasanth Vedantham, M.D., Ph.D., Professor, Medicine, University of California, San Francisco

December 3 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Summary of Seminar:  Dr. Vedantham’s Lab focuses on discovering molecular and genetic determinants of heart rhythm, and in exploring how these factors contribute to the pathogenesis of arrhythmias, such as atrial fibrillation and sinus node dysfunction. His presentation will focus on two broad areas: (1) development of a human induced pluripotent stem cell model system for genetic analysis of heart rhythm phenotypes; and (2) defining the gene regulatory networks that are involved in patterning the heart’s pacemaking and conduction systems. Although he will focus on a few specific molecular pathways, their findings will be situated within a broader and more speculative conceptual framework that relates the evolutionary determinants of mammalian heart rhythm to disease susceptibility.
