MHI Seminar Series presents Xuejun Wang, MD

November 10, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

About the Principal Investigator:  Dr. Wang has a broad background in biomedical sciences, with specific training and expertise in cardiac biology and pathophysiology. His research includes cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiac remodeling and heart failure, with primary emphasis on the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and autophagic-lysosomal pathway (ALP) in cardiac protein quality control (PQC) and proteotoxicity. He has developed an array of innovative reagents for the related studies, such as mouse genetic models for proteasome enhancement (e.g., inducible PA28α overexpression), cardiomyocyte-restricted proteasome inhibition (inducible T60A-PsmB5 o/e), or ubiquitination-proteasome uncoupling (conditional Ubqln1 targeting), and for monitoring in vivo UPS performance (GFPdgn mice), as well as adenoviral vectors for GFPu and CryABR120G transgene delivery to cultured cardiomyocytes. These reagents have been instrumental in advancing the research into cardiac protein degradation and PQC. He has successfully administered multiple NIH-funded projects including duo-PI R01s, collaborated with other researchers, and produced highly impactful publications from each project.
