March 18, 2021 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Aiming for success in college and/or employment? Want to learn skills that empower you to reach your goals? Please join our virtual open house to learn more about the T-STEP (TEACCH School Transition to Employment and Postsecondary Education) Program.
Statewide NC T-STEP Open House – March 18, 2021, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm ET
The T-STEP was developed to support the transition to employment and post-secondary education for 16-21-year-olds with Autism Spectrum Disorder who will or have received the Future-Ready Core high school diploma. Participation includes skill instruction, group practice, video modeling, and role-plays. Additionally, students practice these skills on a weekly basis at a volunteer internship site. Students also receive individual career counseling, higher education counseling, and self-advocacy counseling. This program is available statewide in North Carolina.
The T-STEP covers four areas important for transition readiness:
- Goal Setting Skills – Choosing and working toward an individual’s goals.
- Executive Function Skills – Approaching tasks in an organized manner, time management, and flexibility.
- Emotion Regulation Skills – Coping with stress and accepting corrective feedback.
- Social Skills – Getting help when needed and professional social skills.
Through funding from the North Carolina Division of Vocational Rehabilitation Services and research funding from the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program, the T-STEP is offered free of charge for 16-21-year-old students with ASD across NC at AB Tech, Cape Fear, Central Piedmont, Guilford Technical, Pitt, and Wake Tech Community Colleges.
Potential students, parents/families, Vocational Rehabilitation counselors, college and high school faculty and staff, and organizations supporting individuals with autism are all encouraged to attend.
