VIDEO: Partnering with Habitat to make a difference

As part of its Commitment to Communities program, UNC Health Care is sponsoring the construction of a Habitat for Humanity Home. The home will be owned by UNC Health Care employee Felicia Weaver of the division of Plastic Surgery. To date, more than 200 UNC Health Care and School of Medicine employees along with their families and friends have volunteered to help build the home.

More than 500 T-shirts have been sold at $10 a-piece to support the project.

The house will be a part of Phoenix Place, a well-designed, affordable subdivision of 50 green-certified homes within the Rogers Road community in Chapel Hill. Phase 1 of the construction will include 17 houses, 14 of which will be owned by UNC or UNC Health Care employees. Employees can support this project in a number of ways.

Employee Ambassadors who volunteer 50 or more hours on this or any other Habitat project will earn a donation from UNC Health Care to Habitat of up to $250. Hours may be earned between and June 1, 2009 and May 31, 2010. Hours accumulated prior to becoming an ambassador can be counted. Registered employee ambassadors will also be given priority in scheduling their volunteer hours. Click here to learn about becoming an ambassador.
