Visit the Special Collections at the Health Sciences Library!

The Special Collections consists of a variety of artifacts, books, and correspondence surrounding the history of medicine, nursing, pharmacy etc.

The fifth floor of the Health Sciences Library, where the Benson Reid Wilcox Historical Collections Reading Room sits, contains a large collection of books, pictures, artifacts and other historical pieces surrounding medicine.

From medical art of Andreas Vesalius or Frank H. Netter to correspondence letters of Florence Nightingale and books of various physicians throughout the years, the Special Collections holds items from the 1500s to present day objects.

Throughout the years, the Health Sciences Library has collected valuable and informational materials to add to the collections that have either been donated or bought by the library. Contact Barbara Tysinger at 919-966-0949 or email her at to make an appointment to visit the Special Collections.
