Wanda Nicholson, MD, MPH, MBA, professor in the UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, was appointed to the independent body tasked with making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services, such as screenings, counseling, and preventive medications.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force announced today the appointments of Carol Mangione, MD, MSPH, as chair and Wanda Nicholson, MD, MPH, MBA, as vice chair.
Dr. Mangione is the chief of the Division of General Internal Medicine and Health Services Research; holds the Barbara A. Levey, MD, and Gerald S. Levey, MD, endowed chair in medicine; and is a distinguished professor of medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the executive vice chair for Health Equity and Health Services Research in the Department of Medicine. She is a member of the National Academy of Medicine.
Dr. Nicholson, who served as a member of the task force from January 2009 through December 2013, is a professor of obstetrics and gynecology, director of the PoWER (Patient-Centered Women’s Endocrine and Reproductive Health) Program, and director of the Generalist Reproductive Health Fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. She is a member and vice-president-elect of the board of directors of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, past chair of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Diversity, Equity, and Inclusive Excellence Workgroup, and an immediate past member of the executive board of ACOG.
The Task Force is an independent, volunteer panel of national experts in prevention and evidence-based medicine that works to improve the health of people nationwide by making evidence-based recommendations about clinical preventive services such as screenings, counseling services, and preventive medications.
Katrina Donahue, MD, MPH, professor in the UNC Department of Family Medicine, is also a member of the task force.
