March 16 is Match Day
This year's Match Day Celebration will take place at noon in the MBRB. 165 fourth-year medical students (100 percent of the class) will find out tomorrow where they'll be spending the next few years of their medical training.
Bode, Pasricha win abstract awards at NC ACP Scientific Sessions
Michael Bode, MD, won the Best Clinical Vignette award for, "A case of late onset cardiomyopathy and carpal tunnel syndrome." Sarina Pasricha, MD, won the Best Basic Research award for, "Identification of QTLs for the phenotypes of XBP-1s and SOCS3 in a murine model of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease."
Training Workshop: Using the Allen Brain Atlas Online Public Resources
Join researchers from the Allen Institute for this training workshop demonstrating their online public resource for exploring gene expression in the nervous system. Basic data access, navigation and usability will be covered, as well as more sophisticated search and visualization features.

Tim Smith, MPA, selected for Jim Bernstein Community Health Leadership Fellowship
Tim Smith, MPA, is a program associate with UNC Family Medicine. He works with Carolina Health Net, a program which aims to create a high-quality cost effective system of care for the uninsured by providing access to a medical home, care coordination, medications, diagnostic, and specialty services. Carolina Health Net partners with UNC Health Care and Piedmont Health Services.
Discussion: Using teleheath technology for rehabilitation
This talk will provide an overview of telehealth technologies as applied to physical rehabilitation, the evidence for their efficacy, current challenges and directions for future development.

Gershon receives NIH Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award
Timothy Gershon, MD, PhD, assistant professor of neurology, has received a four-year National Institutes of Health Mentored Clinical Scientist Research Career Development Award grant from the National Institute of Neurologic Disease and Stroke.

The School was ranked second in Primary Care and 21st in research overall. Four specialty areas were also ranked, including Family Medicine, which ranked 2nd in America! The rankings are part of the U.S. News and World Report 2013 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.”
