Beware of New Phone Scam

A new phone scam making the rounds involves scammers trying to trick a victim into redialing a number, which results in international toll charges plus $9 per minute.

How it works: The scammers call a number, let the phone ring once and then hang up. The victim sees a "missed call" message on his/her phone. If the victim selects the call back feature, the phone will call an international number, resulting in a $19.95 international call fee plus $9 per minute for the duration of the call. Area codes that have been reported include: 268, 274, 473, 809, and 876. The best defense against this type of scam is to not return a missed call if you don't recognize the number.
