Philosopher Edmund Burke coined the term moral imagination, which he says, the heart owns and the understanding ratifies. How can third year students — busy translating their new knowledge of basic science into the care of patients— also cultivate moral imagination?

Katharine R. Meacham, Ph.D. And Arlene M Davis, JD will discuss the current state of ethics education in clerkships at UNC-Chapel Hill and in the longitudinal program in Asheville. They will also present preliminary findings from a comparative study done in 2012-13 between third-year students on the two campuses. Join them in the conversation designed to support our students' engagement with the ethical dimensions of caring for patients.
