More than 600 participants from Guam to Alaska to Florida attended the National Area Health Education Centers Organization (NAO) Conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The conference featured keynote speakers including NC AHEC Program Director Warren P. Newton, MD, MPH.

Rural Primary Care Student Program Receives $3M Endowment

The Kenan Primary Care Medical Scholars Program received 3 million dollars upon the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust. The goal of this program is to inspire the best medical students from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Medicine to pursue careers in primary care medicine in underserved rural and urban areas of the state.

Four AHECs Observe 40th Anniversary

The North Carolina AHEC Program established in 1974. After being awarded an $8.5 million federal grant in 1972 to develop a statewide system of area health education centers, the Program's founders took to the task of creating hospital, university, and community affiliations across the state.
