Google Faculty Research Awards Available

This is a short notice funding opportunity. Google has announced a call for applications to their Faculty Research program. Awards can be up to $150,000. Application deadline is April 15, 2015.

The UNC Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations has identified the following private funding opportunity:

Google: Faculty Research Awards

Faculty research awards are one-year awards structured as unrestricted gifts to universities to support full-time faculty members; awards can be up to $150,000 for eligible expenses and usually support basic expenses for one graduate student for one year. Awards support research in Computer Science, Engineering and related fields and several areas of interest:

  • Computational neuroscience  
  • Physical interfaces and immersive experiences
  • Geo/maps
  •    Privacy
  • Information retrieval, extraction and organization 
  • Security
  • Machine learning and data mining
  • Software engineering and programming languages
  • Machine perception 
  • Speech
  • Machine translation
  • Structured data and database management
  • Mobile
  • Structured data and database management
  • Natural language processing
  • Systems (hardware and software)
  • Networking
