Lecture: Medicinal Uses of Wine in the Long Eighteenth Century

The April 28 Bullitt History of Medicine Club Lecture will feature Charles Ludington, PhD, of North Carolina State University, who will discuss wine and its medicinal uses.

Ludington received his B.A. from Yale University and his Ph.D. from Columbia, and is a Teaching Assistant Professor of History at North Carolina State University. He is a leading scholar on the history of wine, and the author of "The Politics of Wine in Britain: A New Cultural History" (2013). He is currently working on a variety of projects including a global history of Cheddar cheese, and an edited volume entitled "Food Fights: Why the Past Matters in Contemporary Food Debates." He was recently awarded a Marie Curie Fellowship by the European Commission, and will spend two years in Ireland and France investigating the role of Irish merchants in the development of Bordeaux wines.
