Alan Sher to deliver The Philip J. Bassford Memorial Lecture
The Philip J. Bassford Memorial Lecture is a student-run event with the primary purpose of facilitating interactions between a distinguished scientist and graduate students. Philip J. Bassford was a respected scientist in the field of E. coli protein secretion, a vital faculty member and a committed mentor to graduate students. Following his death in 1991, the Department of Microbiology and Immunology created the Philip J. Bassford Memorial Fund, which funds the student-driven Bassford Memorial Lecture. This year's lecture will be delivered by Alan Sher, PHD, of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

Falk recommended for appointment as Chair of the Department of Medicine
William L. Roper, MD, MPH, Dean of the UNC School of Medicine, has recommended Ronald Falk, MD, for appointment as Chair of the Department of Medicine following an internal search. Falk will assume his new role effective June 1, 2015.
