Inaugural Dragon’s Lair Competition: Breathing Fire into Educational Innovation

What: The UNC Dragon’s Lair competition is a unique shark-tank like competition for residents at UNC to showcase and receive feedback for potential or ongoing projects in medical education.

Projects may be presented by individuals or by teams of up to five people to the Dragon’s Lair Panel, a group of distinguished medical educators.

Successful projects will address the following questions:

1.      What is the Educational Innovation idea?

2.      What need does the innovation fill?

3.      Who is the target audience?

4.      What are the plans for potential delivery?

5.      How will the outcomes be measured?

6.     Is the project sustainable?

Participants will each receive a $10 gift card to Starbucks, Winners will receive $20. The top five projects will be featured on the AOE website and the winner announced at the AOE Evening of Scholarship. All participants will receive mentoring from the panel.

Who:  All residents within the residents as teacher program and other residents within the AOE and the UNC GME system.

When: May 12

Where: Bondurant 2025

How: Submit a one-page abstract of your innovations to the AOE before May 1. The program can accept up to five submissions for a 10-minute presentation during the session.
