Rheumatology Research Foundation: Various RFPs

The Rheumatology Research Foundation is accepting letters of interest and applications for various RFPs: the Innovative Research Award, the Career Development Bridge Funding Award: K Bridge, and the Scientist Development Award. Award amounts and deadlines vary depending on the program.

Rheumatology Research Foundation: Innovative Research Award
Award amount up to $400,000 over two years
The RRF is accepting applications from independent investigators to conduct novel studies that generate new insights into the cause, progression, treatment and outcomes of rheumatic diseases. Applicants must be a member of ACR or ARHP at the time of submission and for the duration of the award; must hold an MD, PhD, DO, MBBS or equivalent; must have a faculty appointment OR be employed in a clinical practice setting with the ability to administratively and fiscally manage a grant award and obtain human subjects research oversight at the time of application and for the duration of the award. The applicant must also be able to devote a minimum of 20 percent FTE to the project and meet the citizenship and other eligibility requirements (full details in the application guideline, found below).

Rheumatology Research Foundation: Career Development Bridge Funding Award: K Bridge
Award amount up to $375,000 over three years
The RRF is accepting applications to support junior investigators who are conducting innovative research that will be competitive for more funding while they establish themselves as independent investigators. The grant award will support basic science, translational, and clinical investigators engaged in research relevant to rheumatic diseases for the period between the completion of post-doctorate fellowship training and establishment as an independent investigator. Successful candidates will have a developed project with preliminary data that they have generated themselves; a track record of academic productivity in the form of publications; and outline in their application how successful completion of their project will lead to NIH K grant funding (or equivalent) and/or independence over the award’s term. Applicants must be citizens or non-citizen nationals (e.g. Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Swains Island), in possession of a permanent resident card, or meet the criteria found here.

Rheumatology Research Foundation: Scientist Development Award
Award amount up to $225,000 over three (3) years
The RRF is accepting applications from individuals in the early stages of their career or those without significant prior research experience who plan to embark on careers in biomedical and/or clinical research in arthritis and rheumatic diseases. The award will provide support for a structured research training program for rheumatologists or health professionals in the field of rheumatology. This award is a mentored career development program that will provide salary and research support for the early years of research training. The award’s goal is to provide an opportunity for young scientists to embark on focused research and research training that will allow them to be competitive for the next level of career development awards. The Foundation does not currently support PhD’s working on basic science grants. Applicant must be able to commit at least 75 percent FTE to research, career development and other scholarly activities; candidates may not spend more than 25 percent FTE in clinical and/or teaching activities. At least 50 percent FTE must be devoted to the proposed project in year one.
