Surgery Grand Rounds, Kandace McGuire "Targeted Axillary Dissection"

This presentation will discuss the evolution of surgical management of the node positive axilla before and after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer. Dr. McGuire will also discuss current clinical trials addressing this issue, including UNC’s ongoing trial utilizing ‘Targeted Axillary Dissection’ in detecting residual axillary disease.

Dr. McGuire is an Associate Professor of Surgery and breast surgical oncologist at UNC. She completed residency at Thomas Jefferson University and then breast oncology fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Center. She came to UNC from the University of Pittsburgh in 2015 where she served as the clinical director of the premenopaual breast cancer program and director of the breast surgical oncology fellowship. Since joining UNC, she has continued her outcomes research and clinical trials studying young women with breast cancer and surgical management of breast cancer after neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
