Memorandum

To:         UNC School of Medicine Faculty and Alumni

From:     Distinguished Medical Awards Selection Committee

Re:         Nominations for the 2018 Awards

Date:      August 2017

Each year the Distinguished Medical Awards Selection Committee solicits nominations from faculty and alumni for two categories of Distinguished Medical Alumni Awards (DMAA) to be awarded at the annual Spring Medical Alumni Banquet.  One is for excellence in professional and community leadership and service (Community Category). The other is for exemplary contributions to the medical profession or to humankind of such importance as to merit national and international recognition (National Category).

This Committee also solicits nominations for two additional awards presented at the Spring Alumni Banquet. One is the Distinguished Service Award (DSA) to recognize non-alumni who have contributed significant governmental and/or community leadership to the mission of the Medical School. The other is the Distinguished Faculty Award (DFA) to recognize faculty excellence in teaching, contributions to medicine in the state, leadership in continuing education, and accomplishments in improving communications with the people of the state.

The Distinguished Medical Awards Selection Committee is now seeking nominations for the 2018 DMAA, DSA and DFA awards. Specific information on criteria, eligibility, and nomination process for the awards is included in this mailing, as well as on the Medical Alumni Affairs’ Awards website (http://www.med.unc.edu/alumni/alumni-awards) which also includes more general information about the awards and profiles of the 2017 award winners. We hope that faculty and alumni will consider nominating deserving individuals.

If you have any questions or need additional information regarding the nomination process, please feel free to contact Dr. , Committee Chair, or , Committee Support.

Thank you.
