A search committee has been established to identify a well-qualified leader for the UNC School of Medicine's Department of Genetics.

The School of Medicine of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a well-qualified academic leader to serve as Chair of its Department of Genetics.  Established in 2000, the department has grown in size and national reputation to be consistently rated in the top 5 nationally. The department has an exceptional faculty whose expertise ranges across the discipline from quantitative approaches to human genetics with a major emphasis on mammalian genetics and models. The department has collaborations with other departments and centers across the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, Nursing and Pharmacy as well as the College of Arts and Sciences. A vibrant informatics community coupled with state of the art computational infrastructure advance the research of the department with interacting faculty in Statistics, Biostatistics and Computer Science. A compact campus with an embedded and highly rated Medical School and Academic Health Care System make translation of research into the clinic a common and well-funded occurrence. 

The Chair of Genetics is responsible for the overall management, budget, personnel, resource allocation, academic planning and implementation for the department. The Chair is to provide leadership and direction in research, education, and professional missions of the department. Minimum qualifications include a PhD and/or M.D. degree, a distinguished and creative record of research accomplishment, administrative skills, and a commitment to education and diversity.    Consideration of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the search has been successfully concluded.
