Adamson SurgeryDr. Adamson is an Associate Professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery.  He has focused on the Quality Improvement projects that impact the Children’s Hospital and is working diligently toward verifying the UNC Children’s Hospital as  a level 1 Children’s Surgery Center in the ACS Children’s Surgery Quality Improvement Project.  His pediatric general surgery focus includes surgery on newborns with congenital problems as well as older children with inflammatory bowel disease needing surgery.

Kalliainen SurgeryDr. Kalliainen is an Associate Professor in the Division of Plastic Surgery.  Her areas of clinical interest include surgery of the hand, wrist, and peripheral nerves.  Her QI work has focused on opioid prescription optimization and the surgical management of patients with postoperative nerve pain.  She has also written and spoken on professionalism and diversity.

The American College of Surgeons is in the process of expanding quality and safety programs to improve patient-centered care. Using the NSQIP database allows surgeons and residents to capitalize on large data-sets to answer a wide variety of outcomes-based questions.  This presentation will review current programs, practical applications, and project ideas and will hopefully inspire surgeons and trainees to start using the data set.
