The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund, Inc.: Klingenstein-Simons Fellowship Awards in Neuroscience

The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund, in partnership with the Simons Foundation, is accepting applications to support young investigators in the early stages of their careers who are engaged in basic or clinical research that may lead to a better understanding of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Award amount up to $225,000 over three (3) years. The application deadline is February 15, 2018 by 11:59pm EST.

The Esther A. & Joseph Klingenstein Fund, in partnership with the Simons Foundation, is accepting applications to support young investigators in the early stages of their careers who are engaged in basic or clinical research that may lead to a better understanding of neurological and psychiatric disorders. Several areas within the neurosciences are of interest:

  • Cellular and molecular neuroscience – Studies of the mechanisms of neuronal excitability and development, and of the genetic basis of behavior.
  • Neural systems – Studies of the integrative function of the nervous system.
  • Translational research – Studies designed to improve the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and our understanding of the causes of neurological and psychiatric disorders.

Eligible applicants must hold an MD and/or PhD degree, and have completed all research training, including postdoctoral research. Also, candidates must have a tenure track appointment or equivalent. The candidate must be an independent investigator at their institution and be within four (4) years of completing postdoctoral training and the start of their tenure track or equivalent appointment (between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2018). US citizenship is not required, but it is expected that candidates will be permanent residents of the US and that their research will be carried out in the US institutions. More than one application may be submitted from an institution.
