Vodafone Americas Foundation: Wireless Innovation Project

Vodafone Americas Foundation, part of Vodafone’s global network of foundations and affiliated with Vodafone, is accepting applications to promote innovation and increase implementation of wireless-related technology to address critical social issues around the world. Project proposals must demonstrate significant advancement in the field of wireless-related technology applied to social benefit use. Award amount up to $300,000 for finalist; $200,000 for second place and $100,000 for third place winners. The application deadline is March 15, 2018 at 11:59pm PT.

Vodafone Americas Foundation, part of Vodafone’s global network of foundations and affiliated with Vodafone, is accepting applications to promote innovation and increase implementation of wireless-related technology to address critical social issues around the world. Project proposals must demonstrate significant advancement in the field of wireless-related technology applied to social benefit use. Applicants must be part of an established multi-disciplinary team that provides the expertise needed for a comprehensive solution to the targeted problem. For example, a team may consist of members from two or more of the following disciplines: engineering, design, business, international development, or other relevant disciplines. A team may also consist of university-based researchers and non-profit organizations working in such areas as international development, health or environment. Projects must focus on one or more of the following areas:

Social Issue Areas

Technical Issue Area

Access to communication

Connectivity

Education

Energy

Economic development

Language or literacy hurdles

Environment

Ease of use

Health

 

The project must be at a stage of research where an advanced prototype or field/market test can occur during the award period. The technology should have the potential for replication and large-scale impact. Teams should have a business plan or basic framework for financial sustainability and rollout. Winners will be required to submit a report twice a year which details progress made toward Project milestones and how the award funds are being used. Annual award installment payments are conditional upon submission of satisfactory progress reports. Such reports will be in the format and contain the information specified by the Foundation.  The Foundation, in its sole discretion, may determine that no more than 15% of the funds awarded in the Competition may be used by a winner for indirect or overhead costs.
