Erickson featured as The News & Observer's "Tar Heel of the Week"

Karen Erickson, PhD, director of the Department of Allied Health Sciences' Center for Literacy and Disability Studies, was named "Tar Heel of the Week" in late December.

The News & Observer named Karen Erickson, PhD, as Tar Heel of the Week in late December 2017 for her work leading the Center for Literacy and Disability Studies, housed in the Department of Allied Health Sciences. 

The Center, funded in part by the U.S. Department of Education, has reached hundreds of thousands of students around the world who struggle to read, write, and communicate. 

Erickson, along with the UNC Department of Computer Science, created Tar Heel reader, a free online library for beginning readers of all ages. More than 11 million books have been read on the reading platform.
