The Department of Psychiatry is currently recruiting participants for a research study that seeks to understand the impacts and needs of working physician scientists who are parents of children with disabilities, especially children transitioning out of early intervention services into school-based services through the public school system.

Cardiovascular Course in MD Curriculum Seeks Basic Science Co-director
The Foundation Phase of the School of Medicine's MD curriculum seeks a basic science co-director for the Cardiovascular Course for fall 2019. This first-year medical course runs from approximately November 1 to December 15 and consists of basic science (e.g., physiology, anatomy, pathology, histology, etc.) as well as cardiology, pharmacology, epidemiology, imaging, etc.
Behavioral Health Course in MD Curriculum Seeks Basic Science Co-director
The Foundation Phase of the School of Medicine's MD curriculum seeks a basic science co-director for its behavioral health course "Human Behavior in Health and Disease" for fall 2019. This second-year medical course runs from approximately August 1 to August 15 and includes the following topics: normal and abnormal development, autism, learning theory and therapies, personality disorders, genetics, psychopharmacology, intimate partner violence, psychotic disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, somatoform disorders, eating disorders, alcohol and substance abuse, and other related topics.

Experiences of Perinatal Substance Use Treatment in WNC
UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC researchers interviewed patients and providers about their experiences with comprehensive perinatal substance use treatment in Western North Carolina. Qualitative analysis, to be published in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Addiction Medicine, revealed common themes in patients’ and providers' experiences.
Cohen appointed to Fogarty Advisory Board
Myron Cohen, MD, has been selected to join the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Fogarty International Center’s advisory board. Board members include researchers and policymakers involved in global health.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation: Leroy Matthews Physician-Scientist Award
The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) is accepting applications to support newly trained pediatricians and internists to enhance clinical proficiency in CF-related sub specialties and to develop the necessary research capabilities to become independent biomedical investigators. The award provides individuals who are either enrolled in or are about to enroll in sub specialty training with the opportunity to undertake up to six (6) years of support for their clinical training, research training, and the initiation of their research career. Award amount varies. The application deadline is February 15, 2019.

New Partnership with Blue Cross NC – Blue Premier
On Tuesday, Jan. 15, UNC Health Care announced a new partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) to transform health care across the state, improve care, and lower costs for our patients in North Carolina. Blue Premier is a new value-based model of care in which Blue Cross NC and UNC Health Alliance providers are jointly responsible for better health outcomes, exceptional patient experience and lower costs. This alternative payment model is a significant step in our transition to Value-based care.

The UNC Family Medicine Faculty Development Fellowship is the longest running fellowship of its kind in the country. We are now celebrating our 40th year of transforming health care and building leaders in education. On March 8 and 9, we will host a CME conference open to all disciplines to explore integration of health system science and medical education, value based care delivery, mentoring, and more.
