New SOM Strategic Plan “Forward Together” Awards Promote Joint Hires Between Clinical and Basic Science Departments
Two awards for 2019-20 will support recruitments in the Departments of Cell Biology and Physiology, Orthopaedics, and Medicine/Cardiology.
Commins appointed to national tick-borne disease working group
Scott Commins, MD, PhD, continues to research “alpha-gal” meat allergy and create awareness for the tick-borne illness as a new CDC research study begins. Recognized as a leading national expert, Commins will now guide a US DHHS Tick-Borne Working Group Subcommittee.
School of Medicine Expands Effort to Better Clinical Research Process Improvement, Plans to Create CRSO
A workgroup led by NC TraCS and comprised of leadership from the UNC School of Medicine and UNC’s Office of Research is working to establish a new Clinical Research Support Office, which will be charged with advancing clinical research process improvement – a major priority of the Research Imperative within Forward Together, the School of Medicine’s Strategic Plan.

Dr. Steve Bogdewic joins the Dean’s Office of Faculty Affairs & Leadership Development and the Department of Family Medicine
The Office of Faculty Affairs and Leadership Development would like to welcome home Steve Bogdewic, PhD, MA, to the UNC School of Medicine. Dr. Bogdewic returns home from the Indiana University School of Medicine, where he served as Executive Vice Dean, and we are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our team and offerings.
