Michael Steiner, MD, MPH has been named as an Associate Chief Medical Officer at the UNC Medical Center in addition to his role as Pediatrician in Chief of UNC Children’s.


UNC Hospitals is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Steiner, MD, MPH as one of the Associate Chief Medical Officers in his role as Pediatrician in Chief of UNC Children’s.

Dr. Steiner is a general pediatrician and Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics. Dr. Steiner began his career at UNC School of Medicine in 1998 when he was a Medicine/Pediatrics resident and subsequently was appointed Chief Resident. He then served as a pediatrician in the National Health Service Corps and returned to UNC in 2006 as a faculty member within the General Pediatrics division. In this new position, he brings a depth of experience from a variety of leadership roles within the system. He currently serves as the Medical Director for Children’s Population Health with the Health Alliance. He has also been actively involved in Medicaid transitions for the UNC Health Care system.

This new role will align the work and structure within UNC Children’s with the broader medical center and provide opportunities to align population health and value approaches across inpatient and outpatient pediatric care.
