Last Friday, UNC School of Medicine alum and former Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence, Cedric Bright, MD, was inducted into UNC’s Order of the Golden Fleece – the university’s highest and oldest honorary society.
Statement from the organization:
“Dr. Bright led the Medical Education Development program, which is a pipeline for pre-medical and pre-dental students that has trained 10 percent of Black physicians and one-third of Native doctors in North Carolina. Because of his work, the University is one of the most prolific medical schools in regards to graduation rates of Black men – who are vastly underrepresented in the medical field. He designed and taught electives to improve racial equity in medicine. Colleagues credit him with working to make the University’s School of Medicine one of the preeminent medical schools in educating diverse populations.
For his advocacy on behalf of students of color in the School of Medicine and many other accomplishments, the Order of the Golden Fleece proudly taps Dr. Cedric Bright.”
