Meredith Beaton Didier has been named UNC Health Care’s Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Academic Business Development. Beaton Didier most recently served as Chief of Staff to former University of North Carolina System President Margaret Spellings.

Over the course of her career, Beaton Didier has held leadership roles in higher education administration, political and governmental affairs, and communications and public relations.

In her new position at UNC Health Care, Beaton Didier will focus on a number of issues at the intersection of academics and public policy, working closely with senior executive staff at both UNC Health Care and the UNC School of Medicine. In addition, she will lead the UNC School of Medicine’s research business development efforts, helping to connect UNC SOM faculty with external resources to support, accelerate, and translate their discoveries.

“I am excited by the opportunity to work closely with our amazing faculty researchers to maximize the impact of their innovation, across the state and across the world,” said Beaton Didier.

Beaton Didier came to Chapel Hill in 2016 to lead President Margaret Spellings’ transition team, later assuming the role of Chief of Staff and Senior Vice President where she managed the System’s communications and marketing efforts.

“As Chief of Staff to former President Spellings, and throughout her career, Meredith has proven herself to be an expert strategist and trusted advisor, delivering results in high pressure environments,” said A. Wesley Burks, MD, CEO of UNC Health Care and Dean of the UNC School of Medicine. “We are lucky to now have her as part of our team and look forward to the contributions she will make to our institution.”
