Certain respiratory viruses are known to be transmitted to others not only through respiratory droplet exposure but also through direct contact as well as indirect transmission through hands and soiled equipment.

Please remember to order both Droplet and Contact Precautions when placing an orders for a Respiratory Panel. The Droplet-Contact sign will have a new color this year, Purple, to indicate that when entering these rooms you must wear a surgical mask as well as gown and gloves.

Once the test results are final you can refer to Quick Glance for Respiratory Panel Isolation Precautions found on the Infection Prevention Intranet Page or in the Isolation Policy, Appendix 3 to determine the appropriate precautions to continue for each pathogen on the panel.
