“We are very excited to announce the opening of our multidisciplinary combined maternal-fetal medicine and nephrology clinic,” said Reynolds. “Women with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are among the highest risk individuals for adverse pregnancy outcomes, and UNC is a large referral center for reproductive age women with underlying CKD.”

Herrera explained the long-term aim.

“We want to improve outcomes for reproductive women with CKD, while becoming a leader in best practices of care for this unique population, Herrera said. “The clinic is a one-stop-shop where women can receive both obstetric care (including ultrasounds, fetal testing) and management of their CKD utilizing an evidence-based, pregnancy-safe approach.”
