Researchers at the UNC School of Medicine have developed a tool that can identify airway mucus abnormalities in patients with chronic bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or asthma before symptoms start.

Published in Blood, a new study led by UNC School of Medicine’s Alisa Wolberg, PhD, reveals that reducing or blocking the protein that causes blood clot breakdown does not increase the formation of dangerous clots known as thromboses.

William Woodard “Bill” McLendon, MD, Professor Emeritus and Vice Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, former Director of the Department of Hospital Laboratories, UNC Hospitals, passed away at age 93.
