Griffin to replace Nicotra as Chief of the Perfusion Department

Bill Nicotra has been the Chief of the Perfusion Department for the past 12 years with 22 years total service to UNC. He has accepted a promotion to the Director of the perfusion department at Temple University in Philadelphia. We wish him well. Greg Griffin has accepted the position to Chief. He has been with the hospital for the past 17 years.

The perfusion department is part of the Surgical Services division. It’s primary responsibility is to provide  cardiopulmonary support during the cardiac and thoracic surgical cases, adult and pediatrics. In addition, the four perfusionists support the cell saver (autotransfusion) program for cardiac and non-cardiac cases, the ventricular assist device program (VAD), and the ECMO (extra corporeal membrane oxygenation) program.
