UNC Hospitals recognized for community value

UNC Hospitals recently was named a top 100 hospital by Cleverley + Associates in its Community Value Index (CVI) Leadership Awards. UNC Hospitals was among four North Carolina hospitals named to the list, and the only hospital in the Triangle.

“At UNC Health Care, we’re proud to support our community and our state,” said William L. Roper, MD, MPH, UNC Health Care. “UNC Hospitals impacts not only the patients who walk through its doors, but our community as a whole. This designation demonstrates our commitment to the quality of the care we provide and to our community.”

Cleverley + Associates works to enhance the financial position of hospitals so that they can better serve communities. The organization created the CVI more than a decade ago to provide objective information on the value and quality of hospitals. It evaluates hospitals on a variety of measures and suggests that a hospital provides value to the community when it is:

• Financially viable
• Appropriately reinvesting back into the facility
• Maintaining a low-cost structure
• Charging a reasonable amount for services
• Providing high-quality care to patients

UNC Hospitals scored in the top 20 percent of all areas, earning a designation as a Community Value Five Star® facility.

“I am pleased to be surrounded by a group of individuals who are passionate about providing quality care, all while being good stewards of the community we live and work in each day,” said Dr. Roper. “Our success is a direct result of our dedicated staff -- thank you for your commitment to providing excellent care.”
