O'Neil announces fundraising event at N.C. Cancer Hospital

Award-winning Chapel Hill textile collage artist, Elaine O’Neil, has announced that she will sell limited edition 2014 "Luv This Place" calendars to benefit the N.C. Cancer Hospital.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Award-winning textile collage artist, Elaine O’Neil, has announced that she will sell limited-edition 2014 Luv This Place Calendars (http://www.elaineoneil.com/galleries/2014-luv-this-place-calendar/) to benefit the N.C. Cancer Hospital from October 2013 until January 24, 2014.

The Luv This Place 2014 N.C. Calendar features twelve of North Carolina’s most celebrated places, comprised of O’Neil’s original textile collage art. A portion of the proceeds from this limited edition calendar will help fund patient support programs at the N.C. Cancer Hospital for the fourth consecutive year. Calendars are available for purchase for $30 plus shipping at O’Neil’s website and at local retailers including Flyleaf Books, Thimble Pleasures, McIntyre’s Bookstore, Quail Ridge Books, NOFO, N.C. Craft Gallery, FRANK, Be Our Guest, Johnny T-Shirt, and A Southern Season. Since the calendar’s conception in 2010, O’Neil has contributed a cumulative $23,000 to the N.C. Cancer Hospital.

Celebrating its fourth year, the annual fundraising event has evolved into a dedication, and celebration of life. In 2011, the N.C. Cancer Hospital unveiled O’Neil’s twelve original collages. These colleges still hang today in the atrium between the Cancer Hospital and the N.C. Neurosciences Hospital.

Time, thoughtfulness and detail go into each of O’Neil’s 26” by 26” textile collages, each a love project that the artist hopes will give viewers a sense of happiness. The iconic places she depicts in the 2014 calendar, from Franklin Street in April to Pinehurst’s golf course in June to a late harvest farmer’s stand in October, pay homage to cherished N.C. locations.

O’Neil was inspired to raise money for the N.C. Cancer Hospital in 2010 after losing several close friends to cancer. It was a natural fit to fundraise through her collage textile art.

“I want viewers to feel inspired by happy memories. The calendar is a way of remembering loved ones and special places in North Carolina,” says Elaine O’Neil.
